The 6th annual Houston Film Critics Society awards have been announced and Argo won the top two prizes taking director and picture. The awards were dispersed to a variety of films with Lincoln taking three trophies including actor for Daniel Day Lewis and supporting actor Tommy Lee Jones. Jones said he couldn’t be more proud than to receive an award from the Houston critics.
However it was Tony Kushner’s acceptance speech that brought laughter due to it’s length and then tears as he talked about his father who lived in Houston and read every draft over the past decade but never lived to see the final film. “I know that if my dad were here today he would have made that trip over I-10 to be there and accept the award.”
Bernie won the Texas Independent Film Award, a special award the HFCS give to the best indie film made in the state. Robert Duvall received the lifetime achievement award.
President Joshua Starnes opened the show reminding the audience and viewers that the Houston critics are the only critics group to actually hold a live award show.
